Nine Tasmanians share their stories of childhood and school life and of the steps they took as adults to increase their literacy and numeracy skills and gain control of their lives.
Steps and Stories was funded by Skills Tasmania and was the result of a collaboration between literacy practitioners and coordinators from TCAL, Mission Australia, Group Training Association Tasmania’s Pathways to Success programme, and LINC Tasmania.

Nine Tasmanians tell their stories of childhood and school life and of the ways in which a lack of literacy and numeracy skills limited their life choices as adults. They tell of the steps they took later in life to improve their skills in order to be able to build fuller and more autonomous lives.
The stories also pay tribute to the enthusiasm, empathy and skills of the literacy and numeracy tutors, teachers, facilitators and coordinators who helped the authors along the way and who continue to walk with them. It is a shared journey, in which mutual respect and empowerment is the key to success.
The book was launched by TCAL life member and patron, Dick Adams, on Monday 5th November 2012.
